Hiking Around Topanga

Ahhh.. beautiful.

Jack's on the top of the world.

This was the end of our journey…
Last Wednesday my good friends, Steve, Jack, and I went for a hike near Steve’s house in Topanga Canyon. We left with nothing but our cameras (and phone camera, Jack) and hearts eager to explore. Steve wanted to show us a couple awesome spots he been before. I would hike around there every day if I could..

Here are a few of the photos i took:

Fun With Primes

On Friday, I drove out to Topanga Canyon to hang out with my friends Steve, Matt, and his girlfriend, Kelly. Steve was taking some new head shots for Kelly. I used my friend Paul’s Canon 50mm f1.8 Prime on my 7D to shoot some “behind the scenes”. Paul picked up the lens for under $90 and I think it is a GREAT value. The photos came out really awesome (it helps that my friends are very photogenic).

I was at a 100 ISO, various shutter speeds, and mostly at f1.8. Keeping your subject in focus when using low stops can be tough but I’ll just show you some that came out pretty neat.

Here are some of the raw, unedited photos hot off my CF card!!:

Some branches in Steve’s backyard.

That’s Steve!

The lovely Kelly Devoto.

That’s all for now!

3.. 2.. 1.. Draw

This is a recent drawing. I’m still learning certain aspects of lighting so I had a little help from my friend. But I messed with gradients for the first time and I put the gradient on the wrong layer in Photoshop. I liked the result so the I kept the mistake.

Here is the progression:

I also got some help with the eyes but I thought that they looked especially awesome!

Thanks! :)

“Bar”

“Bar” by me n Christopher Custodio

I cannot take credit for all of this. Christopher Custodio is a master at drawing/coloring/photoshop/life in general.
So lets break this down like a fraction.

I drew the dude and the simple bar. It was supposed to be a cartoon version of me in a bar.
Chris gave it some color (and life).
We added a gradient layer (pink to yellow) for the bar windows. Clouds and mountains in the background added by Chris. I drew a city in front of the mountains. Chris added some reflection and shadows from the sunlight, which turned out amazing! Cool beans.

We decided a night version of the same bar would just delightful. So we changed the gradient layer and added some stars. We also removed the cast shadows from the sunsety, previous gradient. Then added an overhead hanging light and reflection. Finally, we put in some city light and atmosphere glow. Beautiful.

Well, that’s all for now!! Thanks for checkin’ this out!!

Time Lapse-o-rama!

Here are a couple photo time lapses I did on my 7D using and an intervelometer taking a photo every 5 seconds. Sorry I don’t have the exposure time, f stops, and ISOs for these two. I will be sure to include them next time!!

This is a time lapse I shot the day before Thanksgiving 2010. The clouds looked crazy cool and I could not resist taking a couple hours to do this.

Full moon time lapse from early November 2010.

Hooray!
